Silver Feet

And adown the steep like a wave I would leap
From the diamond-ledges that jut from the dells;
In the hueless mosses under the sea
Would curl round my silver feet silently,
All looking up for the love of me.
And if I should carol aloud, from aloft
All things that are forked, and horned, and soft
Would lean out from the hollow sphere of the sea,
All looking down for the love of me.

colors of coincidence

Billabong will host an exhibition of Wolfgang Bloch’s work at Laguna Art Museum on Saturday and Sunday, October 11 and 12, in conjunction with Chronicle's release of a book on his life and art.
This man amazes me. As an artist & visionary.
His book written by Mike Stice and designed by renowned graphic designer David Carson, Wolfgang Bloch: the Colors of Coincidence is filled with 50 full-color plates of Bloch’s atmospheric paintings along with photographs and visuals that enrich the story of this artist’s insights and inspirations from childhood environment to 21st Century explorations.
The exhibition will be open to the public October 11-12 from 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Signed copies of the book will be available in the Museum store.
Both Wolfgang Bloch and Mike Stice will be available on Sunday,
October 12, from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. for personalized book signings.
Opening reception is by invitation only.

Naked Orange Mousse

Naked Orange Mousse

1 cup fresh orange juice

1/2 teaspoon agar powder

(for a more gelled mousse, use a touch more)

sweetener to taste (optional)

1 navel orange, peeled and sectioned

Put the orange juice into a sauce pan, sprinkle it with agar, and stir in the sweetener, if you're using it. (I used one tiny scoop of no-calorie KAL stevia.) Bring it to a boil over medium-high heat and cook, stirring, until the agar is completely dissolved.Put the orange sections into a blender (or into the large container of the Magic Bullet). Pour the orange juice mixture over the oranges, and blend at high speed until as smooth as possible. Place the blender into the refrigerator. In 15 minutes, blend again. Refrigerate for another 15 minutes and then blend again. Pour into glasses or bowls and refrigerate until set.
Makes 2-3 servings.

Blackberry-Lime Tarlets

Blackberry-Lime Tarlets

24 mini phyllo shells (in your grocer's freezer case)

1 cup plain soy yogurt

1 tablespoon fresh lime juice

1/4 teaspoon grated lime peel

1/4 cup apple juice

1/3 cup light-colored organic sugar

2 teaspoons agar powder6 ounces blackberries

Crisp the phyllo shells by baking them for 4 minutes in a 350F oven. Set aside to cool while you make the filling.

In a medium-sized bowl, mix the soy yogurt with the lime juice and grated peel.

Put the apple juice and sugar into a small sauce pan and heat it, stirring, until the sugar dissolves. Sprinkle the agar powder over the juice and continue to heat until the agar completely dissolves. Remove from the heat and pour into the yogurt mixture, stirring well.

Divide the yogurt equally among the phyllo shells. Refrigerate the shells until the filling has chilled and set, about an hour. Place blackberries on top and serve.

... if it doesn't come bursting out of you in spite of everything, don't do it. unless it comes unasked out of your heart and your mind and your mouth and your gut, don't do it. if you have to sit for hours staring at a blank canvas or daydreaming with dry brushes in your hand, don't do it. if you're doing it for money or fame, don't do it. if you're doing it because you want women or men in your bed, don't do it. if you have to sit there & do it again and again, don't do it. if it's hard work just thinking about doing it, don't do it. if you're trying to do it like somebody else, forget about it. if you have to wait for it to roar out of you, then wait patiently. if it never does roar out of you, do something else. if you first have to show it to your husband or wife or your girlfriend or your boyfriend or your parents or to myspace or any online networking outlet or to anybody at all, you're not ready. don't be like so many artists, don't be like so many thousands of people who call themselves artists, don't be dull and boring and pretentious, don't be consumed with self - love. the world has yawned themselves to sleep over their kind. don't add to that. don't do it. unless it comes out of your soul like a rocket, unless being still would drive you to madness, don't do it. unless the sun inside you is burning your gut, don't do it. when it is truly time, and if you have been chosen, it will do it by itself and it will keep on doing it until you die or it dies in you. there is no other way. and there never was...
